We had a great, intimate, and fun Gotcha Day celebration yesterday. It coincided with your first swim lesson tonight, to which Dad and I took you. You did super! You were able to do almost everything they asked of you, or at least tried it. Even going under briefly, and you didn’t even swallow any water! You were more irritated by the water in your eyes than anything else. You also weren’t a huge fan if the instructor got too close. But you especially loved motor boat, Humpty Dumpty, and jumping in from the side of the pool – I thought you were the perfect student.
Once home, we all ate dinner together and then got out your cake. You had been so excited about it all day, ever since you and I picked it up at the store on the way home from school. It was chocolate with red and purple icing, just as you had requested. The only problem was that they had misspelled “Gotcha” and so it read “Happy Gotchya Day” – oh well! It still tasted delicious – good choice Mali!
Of course, you and I both needed a shower after all of that red and purple icing. You now love showers and the whole time, you bounced up and down, pretending to lather yourself all up with soap and chanting “Shower! Shower! Shower!” You’re so silly.
We’re planning your bigger Homecoming Celebration for later in the month, to celebrate with more of our extended family. But all in all, this first official Gotcha Day went really, really well. We all went to bed tired and happy.
