Well, it is ever so appropriate in the month of love to announce (to hearty sighs and groans of "Oh, Mom!") that you have your first "special person". Bryden is their name. Aww. So sweet to hear each of you smitten with one another, being so supportive of one another, watching you spend time together in person and also falling asleep on the phone together. You even confided that the 25th was your one month anniversary of asking them out. I wondered if they would remember, too...and lo and behold, you announced once home from school that day that Bryden had indeed remembered your first month anniversary together. Aww. You give each other hugs and it's just the sweetest thing. I just love seeing you with someone who seems to adore you back just as much as you adore them. Very first loves are always so exciting.
This month we also had your IEP update meeting to review your progress and how you are doing in school. All of your teachers were there and it was surprisingly more heartwarming than I expected a school meeting to go. Once we were all seated, each of your teachers took turns providing Daddy and I updates on you and all of them raved and gushed with their love for who you are as their student. A few of the amazing points that many of them agreed upon and shared with us were how it means a great deal to them that you treat them like people and not just teachers (I mean, seriously kid, more than one of your teachers got a little teary-eyed when they shared this with us)...you greet them warmly upon entering their classroom and bid them goodbye when you leave...you ask them how their day is going or how their weekend was...and you are *always* willing to help both your teachers and peers on any given day, especially notable because (unlike many of your peers), you expect nothing in return which is incredibly rare and unusual for a child your age.
Instead of an IEP meeting, it truly felt like a Mali Love Fest. How did Daddy and I get so lucky? You were definitely sent to us from somewhere beyond...you are an amazing example of the good that is possible in this world.
Along with a whole lot of love this week, this month has also been a month of sleepovers. First, you attended a sleepover for Avery's birthday and had a lot of fun and were filled with many stories when you got home the next morning. Makes me so happy to see you living it up in your best tween life with kind friends who treat you well.
Then, like a week later school was closed on a Friday and a lot of us parents weren't prepared for it, so I agreed to an impromptu sleepover at our house on a Thursday night with Avery, Jocelyn, and Jelysa. I took you all to dinner and then of course the obligatory junk food shopping spree before heading home for the actual sleepover. All of these kids are really good humans so it was definitely our pleasure to host this crazy group for a sleepover.

Also...Daddy was out one night really late and so you and I tackled cleaning out and organizing our pantry (that desperately needed it!) and then you decided to teach me one of your crazy Tiktok dances and we actually made a video together. Not too shabby, either! If I do say so, myself. Ha.
And finally, we also had our official celebration for the Lunar New Year by going out for dim sum at one of the best dim sum restaurants in town ~ Sunflower! Yummy!

Towards the tail end of the month, Lao Lao moved into her new home! Huge news, right?! Her first house chosen and bought all on her own and the best part? It's literally right around the corner from us...probably 1/8 of a mile from our front door. How cool is that? I can't wait to take photos of her in her new home but for now, it is filled with boxes fresh from the move and so we'll wait until she's a little cozier in her new digs.

You've also been feeding the local squirrels and we've begun having a regular visitor from this guy. You actually took this picture (above) and sent it to me one morning. Cool, yeah?
Anyhoo...happy month of lurrve, hon.
Love,
Yo Mama
