Gobble Gobble, Blech Blech...but we're still thankful anyway

Maliana ~

As I write this to you, I have been sick for the last two days. And, unfortunately, you had been sick for several days before that too. Even on the holiday known for yes, thankfulness, but also best known for eating a ton of food, you could barely eat any of it due to your digestive upset. Poor thing. Even the day after Thanksgiving, you were really lethargic and actually began crying at school. When I got that call, I came home from work and picked you up, brought home all sorts of food (good for belly ailments) and the Wizard of Oz for us. Luckily, you are feeling better today and went to Wai Gong's for the Brown's game with Daddy, with me staying home and trying to feel well enough for work tomorrow. You're having a good time with them so that makes me feel better already.

Yesterday, Lao Lao came over and helped entertain you while Daddy worked and I rested. Thank God for Lao Lao. You both had a good time together, making cookies and a big pot of chicken soup. As I laid there in bed, listening to you giggling and chatting, all I kept thinking was that I needed to get up and take pictures of you both together. Yes, even as sick as I was, I am still your "mammarazzi". You did so well with Lao Lao, that she was surprised and had to laugh when I got up and came out there with you two. You almost immediately began to whine, pretending to need me to do all sorts of things for you. I guess it just shows that we all regress a bit when our "mommies" come around.

In spite of picking you up early from school on Friday, you did perk up for a bit by night. We got down our Christmas tree and decorations and you helped us push the big boxes down the hall after pulling them down from the attic. You were a big help and each time we'd turn on some Christmas lights or get a new decoration out that you particularly liked, you'd say, "Thank you Daddy!" or "Thank you Mommy!" You are just the sweetest.

Going back through the week, we had a quiet Thanksgiving holiday, just making dinner for the three of us and then three of Daddy's coworkers that had no where to go. It was nice and you enjoyed seeing "Uncle Lu Lu" and the other two pilots that came by. The day before, you helped me take Abby to the vet and were such a good "sister". You helped me try to calm her down and even held the leash, trying to get her into the exam room as best you could. I was actually pretty surprised with your "take charge" (if not a tad bossy) spirit and seeing you act like a little adult. It was really cute. On the way to the vet, we had to stop to get gas for the car, and you cracked me up when you said from the backseat, "More...gas...car?!?" and then rolled your eyes. Yes, yes, I know, I drive a gas guzzler. Ha ha. When we got home, you helped me clean the bathrooms too. You particularly enjoyed cleaning the bathtub, at one point even using a flashlight. Then when I complimented you on how well you were doing, you said, "No Mama, not yet!" I guess you weren't finished. All in all, you worked on that bathtub for a good 20 minutes ~ you just love to clean!

On Tuesday this week, Lao Lao picked you up from school and took you up to Polaris. Evidently, you had a lot of fun. You especially fell in love with a particular toy in Brookstone, the hexbugs nano. They are these robotic cockroach things that crawl around in their own little habitat. Leave it to you to like robotic cockroaches! Anyway, the guy in the store fell in love with you, showing you all sorts of things, and remarking that you were so smart and "the cutest kid he has ever seen in real life". When you saw the playground at the mall and Lao Lao said you could go play on it, you exclaimed, "Playground?! Thank you Lao Lao!!" (our little appreciative sweetheart!) Then the even bigger surprise of the day was when you, out of the blue, asked Lao Lao if you could visit Santa and then hopped up onto his lap like an old pro! Lao Lao was shocked and I was speechless when she told me! I guess you sat and talked to him like you'd been doing it for years. What a big girl. Your hair was a train wreck from a hard day playing at school, but the picture is still just the cutest!

So, even though this week was tough and touched with illness for all of us, it was still a good week since we were all together.

Love,
Mama
