A Birthday Thank You Encore

This post was copied and pasted from last year's birthday. As I reread it, I realized that the sentiment is the same, except now the gratitude is multiplied by another 365 days with this wonderful child we are so fortunate to love. So, if you're out there somewhere birthparents...this one's for you.

A Birthday Thank You

Dear Maliana Suirong's birthparents,

March 6th is late winter here in Ohio, typically cold and bleak. As we drove home today from a long weekend of birthday celebrations, through a barren landscape of grays and browns, I couldn't help but feel abundantly content, warm, and happy inside.

While I do realize that three years ago was quite probably a very traumatic time for you, this letter is to somehow let you know, across all the miles that separate us, things are ok. While I can't completely imagine how you may feel each year at this time, or truly grasp how difficult your decision must have been, I hope you can somehow sense that Mali is doing incredibly well where she is today.

I sincerely believe that you would be very proud of the child she is becoming. She is strong and graceful; a born leader yet empathic, sensitive, and kind to others; appreciative; considerate; intelligent; inquisitive; has a wonderful sense of humor; eyes that can melt your soul; and a smile that lights up any room. To name but a few of the amazing qualities that make up your daughter.

I have no idea if she has your eyes, your smile, or your laugh...but I do frequently look at her and wonder about you. From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you. Thank you for the gift of your daughter.

I promise to always do my best to support and encourage her to continue becoming the brilliant person, in every sense of the word, that she is destined to become. The weather may be dreary here this time of year, but never again will early March be anything but colorful and bright for me, because of your daughter, and the loving sacrifice you made for her three four years ago.

Sincerely,
Theresa
